When the right dog meets the right owner, some may call it luck, while others may call it fate.
That’s exactly what happened recently when Brandon Boyers of Jackson, Michigan, walked right into an animal shelter.Brandon went to the Jackson Region Animal Sanctuary to look at two chickens he was thinking about adopting, but fate had other ideas.
Brandon noticed a puppy with a cleft lip while walking around the sanctuary.A cleft lip is a condition in which part of the dog’s lip is misshapen or missing, according to Veterinary Partner. One or two nostrils may appear to connect directly to the mouth at times.Boyers couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the young puppy with the cleft lip.He immediately Facetimed his wife, Ashley, to inform her of the adorable puppy.
The Boyers couple felt a strong bond with the puppy because their son, Bentley, was born with a cleft lip and had difficulties in his first months of life.Ashley claims her son was a happy baby, but he struggled to eat at first.Bentley had to be propped up to be fed.She would undoubtedly hold his lips together so he could eat food.
Ashley immediately informed her husband that they needed the puppy and planned to adopt him.The family recently went to the shelter to pick up the puppy after filling out the paperwork and being approved.According to the shelter, puppies with cleft palates or lips are uncommon, so this was a case of the right person arriving at the right time.
“To see him have something in common with a puppy means a lot because he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something in common,” Ashley explained.
We wish the family the best of luck with their lovely son and his new puppy.
