Whitney Parks, a 37-year-old resident of Boston, shared that she welcomed Hinckley, a one-year-old Golden Retriever, into her home as a companion for her soon-to-arrive baby Theodore, expected in October 2020.

From the moment Theodore arrived, Hinckley became his unwavering companion, engaging in activities such as napping, snuggling, and even sharing meals together. Whitney, a communications professional, observed that Hinckley eagerly wants to be a part of every moment in Theodore’s life, further affirming the timeless bond between dogs and humans. Whitney explained, “When we first brought Teddy home, Hinckley thought we had gotten him a new toy designed exclusively for him.” It’s understandable for Hinckley to have believed so, considering the undivided attention he had received for a year. From our bed, she would attentively watch over Teddy while he peacefully slept in his cradle, marveling at his every movement.

After a few days, Hinckley realized that the ‘toy’ was not his and wouldn’t be returning. However, Hinckley’s infatuation with Teddy began as soon as the baby arrived in the household, leading to a strong desire to be involved in all of Teddy’s activities. Whether it’s tummy time on the couch or on the floor, Teddy and Hinckley find joy in snuggling together. Hinckley actively participates in each feeding session, positioning himself on my right while Teddy rests on my left. It’s a beautiful opportunity for the three of us to bond and share affectionate moments. Sometimes, when I’m not paying attention, Hinckley will cheekily snatch Teddy’s burp towel once he’s finished with his bottle, and I can’t help but chuckle at their adorable antics.
